From 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Sunday, August 30th, attendees will hear a multigenerational array of musicians playing jazz standards, Latin Jazz, samba percussion, jazz vocals, guitar-based arrangements, carefully scripted horn arrangements and swinging music from the blue note era. Each group will play one, half-hour set.

Sunday’s show will kick off at 2:00 PM with the Youth Jazz Ensemble, featuring a very strong group of young players from BUHS, Leland and Gray and BFUHS. The Latin Jazz Ensemble will then play danceable grooves from Colombia, Brazil and Cuba. The Samba Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Julian Gerstin and Ron Kelley will play a medley of percussion pieces of Brazilian origin. The Soubrette Jazz Choir will perform Anna Patton’s beautifully harmonized, smart and quirky arrangements. Draa Hobbs will then lead two guitar ensembles. The VJC Sextet, led by Rob Freeberg, is a group of area musicians who come together once a week to rehearse carefully harmonized three-horn arrangements. Claire Arenius’ two Blue Note Ensembles will perform music made famous on the signature jazz record label: Blue Note Records.
