6th Annual Solo Jazz Piano Festival

April 22, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - April 23, 2022 @ 10:00 pm

TICKETS

FOR ALL MUSIC LOVERS, not just pianists, interested in both the practical and spiritual aspects of jazz and improvised music. Together we will hear six brilliant pianists perform and discuss their relationship to music, to the jazz lineage, to structure and to freedom. The piano is both a work of art and a tool for personal expression, it is an instrument that gives access to simultaneous harmonic, melodic and rhythmical vocabularies. The VJC invites you to participate in a festival that showcases the myriad ways that people who have invested their lives in the piano relate with the instrument and with the sounds that spring forth – with reverence, discipline and joy.  Click Here for Artist Bios, full schedule listed below.

The VJC Solo Piano Festival was inspired by the donation of a world-class quality, Steinway Concert Grand piano by the McKenzie Family Charitable Trust. The VJC is beyond grateful to the Trust for this inspiring instrument, it continues to serve as a vehicle for artists to reach beyond themselves and seamlessly transform pure heartfelt energy into musical sound.

This year each concert will have an in-person audience as well as a livestream component. You may purchase in-person tickets above and/or donate to the livestream below.  Please give generously and support live music. Tickets are valued at $80 for the weekend, $20 per concert, and $60 for Saturday’s daytime educational offerings. Your contribution will go directly towards sustaining the Vermont Jazz Center’s mission of providing access to top quality jazz music to all as well as fair employment to jazz musicians.

"And a piano is just a piano. It’s made out of so much wood and wires and little hammers and big ones, and ivory. While there’s only so much you can do with it, the only way to find this out is to try; to try and make it do everything."

—James Baldwin
