Presented in collaboration with Brattleboro Music Center
Our fourth annual solo jazz piano festival celebrates the VJC’s nine-foot Steinway concert grand piano, a gift from the Mckenzie Family Charitable Trust. This festival honors the piano’s immense contribution in jazz by presenting leading and upcoming musicians who have devoted their lives to mastering the instrument’s creative potential and stylistic legacies. The event is both educational and performance-based, including, from all four of the headlining artists, master-class style presentations (offered to pianists and non-pianists) as well as a free-wheeling Q & A session panel.
Orrin Evans is the pianist for the Bad Plus and leader of the Captain Black Big Band. He has released 18 albums as a leader and has recorded as a sideman on almost 200 releases.
Award winning pianist, composer and music director for numerous Grammy Award presentations, Patrice Rushen is the chair of the popular music program at USC. She has performed, composed, produced, or arranged on over 1000 releases.
Other participating pianists are TBA.
Concerts will be held at the Vermont Jazz Center on Friday and Saturday nights. Masterclasses, concerts of regional artists and panels will be held at the Brattleboro Music Center.
