OPENING: OPERATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY: The Vermont Jazz Center Operations and Communications Manager implements many of the nuts-and-bolts activities of this non-profit community arts organization. Duties include communications, event planning, office management, financial transactions, and coordination of faculty and volunteers. You will work in a small office setting, with frequent interaction with VJC’s Executive Director and bookkeeper. You will also interact with faculty, guest artists, donors, tech crew, archivist, and members of the public. Self-guided organization of multiple tasks is essential. Communications and computer skills, particularly CRM and Social Media savvy are needed. This is a full-time position with benefits beginning after a trial period. The work is mostly on-site (not remote). It requires some intensive days, evenings and weekends for concerts and other major events.

Since 1974, the Vermont Jazz Center has brought affordable high-quality jazz performance and instruction to the rural towns of southern Vermont. Our major activities include ten+ annual concerts (one a month, September – June), a week-long residency in August, and ongoing ensemble classes. We have become recognized as a premier venue for major performers, and we are equally proud of our service to our local community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Office Management
Maintaining and coordinating the day-to-day and long-term operations of the organization.

Communications
Includes promotion of events (concerts, workshops, outreach), maintaining the VJC website; interactions on an ongoing basis by email, phone and in person with guest artists, faculty, students, volunteers, and donors; and production of the annual donor appeal.

Event Planning
• Concerts and Festivals
Concerts take place monthly, September through June. In two of those months, these expand into small festivals with several performances and workshops throughout the weekend. Also involves coordination of production for student recitals and the Summer Jazz Workshop and participation in production chain of VJC archives.

• Summer Jazz Workshop
Coordination of a week-long jazz-education residency that takes place in August at the Putney School in Putney, Vermont. It involves approximately eighty students and twenty faculty, who live on campus and participate in long days of classes and performances.

• Semester Educational Offerings
VJC offers our community two semesters of ensembles and other classes, fall and winter/spring. Handles registration of classes, organization of spreadsheets and financial supervision.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred
Experience in management of a non-profit organization is useful, preferably in the arts
Experience in event-planning required
Computer experience required
Experience with CRM (Customer Relation Management Software) required
Experience with MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, Vimeo and WordPress strongly preferred

Salary range $45K – $50K
