Draa Hobbs studied guitar with jazz greats Jimmy Raney, Gene Bertoncini, Peter Leitch and especially Atilla Zoller. Under Atilla’s mentorship, Draa appeared in concert with David Amram, Don Friedman, Lee Konitz and many others. Since then he has performed in worked with Eliot Zigmund, Ron McClure, Jed Levy, Allison Miller, T-Bone Wolk and others. Draa has recorded with the Steve Sonntag Quintet, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lisa McCormick, drummer James Wormworth and bassist Tony Garnier (who is known for his work with Asleep At The Wheel, Lucinda Williams, and as musical director and bassist for Bob Dylan). Draa is also featured on Ed Eastridge’s recording “The House With Four Chimneys,” performing the music of classical composer Erik Satie. As an educator, Draa has taught at Marlboro College, Amherst College, the Putney School, the Vermont Jazz Center, and Plymouth State University, where he ran the guitar program and coached ensembles. He is currently involved in a recording project with esteemed guitarist John Stowell, with whom he has been performing as a duo in clubs and concerts for more than a decade.
