Solo Piano Concert Feat. Zaccai Curtis & Ray Gallon

The Vermont Jazz Center will be hosting an afternoon concert with two extraordinary pianists who will be teaching at the VJC’s Summer Piano
Workshop. Zaccai Curtis and Ray Gallon will appear in solo performances at the VJC’s concert venue at 72 Cotton Mill Hill. This will be an indoor, in-person event. Attendees are asked to be vaccinated (honor system) and wear a mask. The concert will also be live streamed and available on our homepage and Facebook page.
Zaccai Curtis and Ray Gallon will be performing as part of a weeklong program where participants will focus on developing skills germane to solo piano jazz. The instructors are masters of the idiom. During this faculty concert they will demonstrate the importance of the left hand in creating interesting textures that provide contrast and excitement. A few left-hand piano techniques that concert goers will encounter are walking bass, stride bass and top-down harmonization. These techniques will be discussed in an after-performance Q and A facilitated by VJC Director Eugene Uman. Audience questions will be welcomed.
