2022 Summer Jazz Workshop

The Vermont Jazz Center will be hosting its Summer Workshop this year!

Location: The Putney School in Putney, Vermont

Greetings! The Vermont Jazz center is pleased to present its first, on-campus, Summer Jazz Workshop since the summer of 2019. We are now accepting registrations.

We ask vocalists and instrumentalists interested in a focused week of creating music together to contact us as soon as possible to assure placement.

We are grateful to be back at the beautiful Putney School campus, where the sounds of saxophones mingle with the smells of farm-life, and the shooting stars remind us how small we really are.

The basic premise of the VJC Summer Workshop is to create a community through music that includes improvisation. For 47 years we have brought people together using jazz as the catalyst. Jazz is an ensemble-oriented artform that relies on listening and relationships; it pays homage to the wisdom of the masters who have developed an improvisational language propelled by innovations in rhythm. Our program is dedicated to creating playing situations that honor the historical context but embrace forward-thinking concepts through jam sessions, ensembles and listening opportunities. At the Vermont Jazz Center we believe in hands-on learning, so theoretical information is fused with playing opportunities (including late night jam sessions) that create a seamless bridge of information and application.

TUITION
Single occupancy rooms – $1845 (sold out)
Double occupancy rooms – $1645
Off-campus rooms, includes all meals – $1245
One day rate, includes lunch and dinner – $325

First time applicants: Email a recorded example of you performing a ballad and an up-tempo tune. Instrumentalists include at least one chorus of improvisation. Send to eugene@vtjazz.org and ginger@vtjazz.org

HEALTH AND SAFETY
VJC is committed to ensuring the safety of all participants to the best of our ability. We follow health and safety guidelines that exceed state and national requirements. The VJC Board of Directors has established a clear protocol that adjusts to the most current recommendations. At this time we are requiring that all participants be vaxxed and ask everyone to bring proof of vaccination and a photo ID to registration. PAYMENT DETAILS
Deposit Payment: Initial 50% of total tuition due at time of registration (reserve your space)
Final Installment Payment: Due June 30, 2022 (second 50% of total tuition)

REFUND POLICY
Before June 30th, 2022: Total fee is refundable minus $50 processing fee
July 1-26, 2022: 50% of total workshop fee (Deposit Payment) is non-refundable
July 27, 2022 onward: Total workshop fee is non-refundable
