Wind Masterclass Topics:
Saxophonists and flutists will work with up-and-coming jazz master Camille Thurman. The masterclass will focus on developing facilities with scales, tonguing, arpeggios and chords, sound development and breathing. We will analyze improvised transcriptions to learn from the masters’ melodic choices in relation to each song’s given harmony. Participants will develop enhanced control of intonation and sound and develop an increased awareness of the horn including mouthpiece, overtone production, and breathing exercises.

Guitar Masterclass Topics:
Freddie will demonstrate and teach one of his arrangements and each student will work on creating a new solo arrangement based on some fundamental concepts (intros, chord melody, walking bass lines, reharminization, endings, etc).  CLICK HERE to see Freddie playing “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat.”

Special Evening Sessions

For Zoom Tunes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday all program participants will join via Zoom.  Musicians take turns playing or singing a given tune (either solo or with a backing track) one at a time  and enjoy banter with other members of the community about their performance.  Instructors:  Franz Robert, Ben Barnett and Malik McLaurine. Repertoire TBA.

On Wednesday, local participants will meet at VJC for a jam.
