Daily Schedule

11:00 am – 1:00 pm   Masterclass: Singing the Standards

Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton create a safe place for emerging and professional vocalists to develop their skills, make mistakes and discover their authentic selves. 

Participants will:
Sing standards with backing-tracks like iReal Pro
Learn about counting off tempos, arranging, intros and endings and performance tips
Glean advice from two jazz masters who have sung professionally around the globe in a variety of settings
Develop skills in improvising and scatting
Work with free structures using Free Sing exercises.

 

Special Evening Sessions

For Zoom Tunes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday all program participants will join via Zoom.  Musicians take turns playing or singing a given tune (either solo or with a backing track) one at a time  and enjoy banter with other members of the community about their performance.  Instructors:  Franz Robert, Ben Barnett and Malik McLaurine. Repertoire TBA.

On Wednesday, local participants will meet at VJC for a jam.
