Eugene Uman is the director of the Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro Vermont where he has produced hundreds of concerts and educational programs since 1997. The VJC was offered a 2014 Chamber Music America Acclaim award acknowledging his programming and outreach. Uman received an MA from Queens College in Jazz Performance, and was a recipient of a Eubie Blake Scholarship; he served as a fellow in composition at the MacDowell Colony in March of 2011. He is currently the jazz piano instructor at Amherst College. He continues to foster a close relationship with the blossoming jazz movement in Medellín, Colombia having taught at el Colegio de Musica, la Universidad de Antioquia and la Universidad EAFIT. Uman has recorded two CDs with his own sextet, the Convergence Project. He has recorded with other artists including the Bob Stabach Quartet, Derrik Jordan, the Julian Gerstin Sextet, Jill Connolly, The Ambassadors of Light, Los Estados Alterados and numerous others. He has also served as a record producer. He has composed commissioned works for the Big Band de Medellín and the Windham Orchestra. For the last three years Uman has hosted a weekly jazz radio show on WVEW FM.
